Sana Kapadia

Designer & Teacher

Former architect. Now teaches the art of drawing one line at a time.

Sana spent twelve years drafting buildings before walking out at thirty-three to teach mindful design. She lives in Mumbai and runs small workshops on intentional space. She writes here on the design of inner space — what we make room for, and what we allow to take up the room. Architecture left her with a draftswoman's convictions: every plan is a set of decisions about what matters, most clutter is deferred decision-making, and a room teaches its occupants how to feel long before they notice the lesson. When she turned from buildings to attention, she found the same rules waiting. Her essays treat a morning like a floor plan — where the light should fall first, what the entryway to a day should hold, which habits are load-bearing walls and which are furniture that can move. Her workshops fill with people who want tidier homes and leave having redrawn something else entirely, which she considers the workshops working as designed. She keeps her own practice architectural: the same chair, the same quarter hour, one Dream-Self Moment listened to before the city gets loud — a daily site visit, she calls it, to the self under construction. Her recurring theme is that space is never neutral: inner or outer, it is always teaching something, so you may as well decide the curriculum.

Writes about: intentional space, mindset, manifestation.
