Anouk Beaumont

Librarian & Writer

Librarian by day. Poet by morning. Believer in starting small.

Anouk has worked in the same neighborhood library in Brussels for seven years. She writes a small Substack about morning practice that has more readers than she expected. Her essays for Aya are quiet, observed, and slightly funny — the way poetry is when it is also true. The library shaped her more than any course could: seven years of watching what people actually reach for, of shelving the ambitious books that come back unread and the small ones that come back worn out. She applies the same test to practices that she applies to books — not is it impressive, but does it get finished. Her own mornings are built accordingly: one page written before work, one short listen on the walk to the bus, nothing that requires a better version of her than the one who woke up. The Substack began as notes to herself and grew by word of mouth, which she considers the only honest way a morning practice should spread. Her essays for Aya carry the librarian's habits — precision about small things, patience with slow readers, and a firm belief that starting small is not a compromise but a strategy. Her recurring theme is the modest keepable ritual: the practice sized to an actual life, kept long enough to matter. The best mornings, she says, are the ones that would look like nothing from the outside.

Writes about: morning practice, journaling, manifestation.
